Goodness Gracious Me!!

The classic

The classic sign

Have you ever seen those little (trying to be discrete) signs hung around Singapore, that urges that mind of yours to faithfully follow them? Now these signs not only just grab my attention, more so, my conscience. The latest to the company of signs is the ”Goodness Gracious Me” sticker (slightly larger than A4 size), located strategically on tables of hustling eateries such as foodcourts (last time I checked, Kopitiam at Plaza Singapura dons these stickers). While the Singapore goverment is trying to egg us on to being that totally transformed refined person. Mind you, I think that the name of the campaign is an irony by itself. It is known that an average Singaporean eats like an army and leaves a trail of unwanted, unsightly pile of bones, gravy, tissue papers, etc.. You name it, you’ve got it. Indeed, we have all got to be gracious at one point or another, but seriously in an eating haven like Singapore, nothing comes between the food and you, even when graciousness is concerned. I am so gonna check out the success of this campaign. Stay tune..

The irony lies within the motives of the campaign..

Overwhelming, Mindblowing…

I needed to write this down, somewhere, somehow, right here, right now. Was watching the news, and the terrorist attacks on the city of Mumbai, India brought waves of terror and anguish. Bloodshed across the country over senseless motives through violence and the killing of the innocent. 140 dead, 280 injured, and still counting. Would anyone be concerned? I am, I truly am, because our fellow Singaporean (see picture above) has just given up her life in the face of terror. Found dead on the 19th floor of the hotel she was staying. A young and promising lawyer, aged 28 was tragically taken away from us. How could anyone stand by and watch without feeling a surge of sadness? Her hubby Michael flew over to Mumbai tonight to identify her body. I tremble when I try to place myself in Ms Lo’s shoes as a hostage, threatened at gun point. It was known that the terrorists needed her to contact the Singapore government, to relay a red light towards any re-enforcements. Fighter warriors these terrorists claim to be, but all I can advocate is that they are only cowards with no name and no reason to fight for, except their own selfishness on watching others suffer for their sake of freedom. I openly share my grief on those who have braved this storm, but lamentably did not have a chance to bid their last goodbyes. Feel free to send your sincere condolences by commenting through this first entry of mine, and bring relief to the hearts of the shaken…
